OUR STORY
日本語の庭 (Nihongo no Niwa) is an online Japanese language school founded in February, 2020 by Jason Musikanth, who lives in Cape Town, South Africa, and who is currently studying for his JLPT N1 exam. With more than 10 years of Japanese language coaching experience, we have developed an effective teaching style and method of instruction, and have former students successfully living and working across Japan.
Jason was the former head of the tutor team at ケープタウン日本語会 (Cape Town Nihongo Kai), a local institution led by Japanese native, and fearsome linguist, Keigo Aoki-Bazlinton. Upon the closure of Cape Town Nihongo Kai, Jason took up the mantle at the insistence of both Keigo先生 and the students, and he has been running his own school ever since. Keigo先生 sadly passed away in early 2023, but Jason is keeping his legacy alive by spreading his love of Japanese language and culture, with new students joining the community regularly.
OUR PHILOSOPHY

We also believe in creating a supportive and inclusive learning community through regular school events, where students can confidently practice their language skills and engage in meaningful cultural exchanges.
Symbolizing our commitment to growth and perseverance, our school mascot is a majestic koi fish, which holds great significance in Japanese culture, representing strength, perserverence, and transformation. These values resonate with our approach to education, where we encourage our students to overcome challenges, embrace new perspectives, and achieve their language learning goals.
